Walking Down the Runway - Video Example

After my last post about walking down the catwalk (or runway as it is also called) some of my friends thought I should post a video as it would probably be easier to show people with a video rather than explaning it in writing. I couldn't agree more, but unfortunately I don't have the equipment to properly record myself. But I did manage to find a pretty good YouTube video that I thought I would share with you here. So give this a watch if you're looking for some more tips on how a model walks down the runway...

Proper Form for Walking Down the Catwalk

A successful modeling career is dependent on the attainment of a proper form for walking down the catwalk. This happens to be one of the most common questions I get so I decided I'd write a post about it. Most women think it's a challenge, but I must say that it is easy to get the model look. In fact, any time you go to a professional salon and your look can be changed in an hour’s time. But the art of achieving the right status is to walk like an ideal model. Yes, it is the catwalk!

To make your walk perfect you need to practice the art of walking by wearing high heels and walking up and down the road several times. It may not be easy in the first few days but ultimately you will get the grip and balance to get the perfect catwalk.

To walk down the catwalk, you must feel from within that you are the ideal model. Stand like how the supermodels do. It does not matter if you are not, but imitating your seniors I the right manner will make your each their position one day. Make the correct posture by taking your shoulders forward. Do not droop. It is the worst thing to do with the perfect height that you own. Do not give the impression of a backward lean; rather exhibit a leaning forward posture. It is the ideal one for a model and to accompany the catwalk on stage.

To get the proper form for walking down the catwalk you can try to balance a book on your head. This will help you make the correct move and change your walk immensely.

When you are walking down the catwalk, make sure that you first place your toes on the ground and then the heel. It creates a more elegant and graceful look. Also while walking, place one foot in front of another. This will help in straightening your walk needed for the ramp.

Walk like a horse. Take steps with enough spacing just like a horse does. It must not be too less like a baby walks and not too much to make it appear awkward. Balance your steps equally and also bend your knee a little as you take each step forward.

Moreover, to get the proper form for walking down the catwalk you must look straight. Your attitude must reflect on your face and clothes that you have worn at the event. Of course this does not mean you stare at a particular audience but create a focal point of your own.

Models usually do not smile when they are walking down the catwalk. Instead appear happy with the look in your eyes. They must smile on behalf of your lips. Make them shine brighter. Your chin must also be raised upwards at the level of your face. This helps in giving a more professional look to your entire appearance.

The most important thing to keep in mind is to make your shoulders and head steady while you walk down the catwalk. Do not move your shoulders and head at all. Instead move your hips time and again for the perfect walk.

It is a habit for people to fidget with their fingers when they are walking on the road. But for a catwalk, let loose your fingers and leave them hanging down. Do not make movements with them as it can become a focus of attention for the audience (even if you might not realize it).

Understand your body and practice regularly to achieve the proper form for walking down the catwalk. If possible ask your friends to take a video of your walk and self correct your mistakes. This will help you develop the right posture, attitude and movement for the catwalk.

How to Become a Model

For my very first blog post ever, I thought I would give my advice on how to become a model. While there is no tried tested and true formula, there are some general things that come into play. I'd say the first thing (even though it is superficial) is that you need to havehave the perfect body and the right face. Having met these two criteria, you are almost there. Of course a natural talent and a knack to handle the glamour world is a must. But with time and practice, these can be achieved gradually.

Before you can start applying, you must ensure that you have the right body figure. To get the figure and maintain it, your diet needs control and an inclusion of nutritious and fibrous food. To get the perfect face you must groom yourself well – the hair, eyebrows, and skin.

To become a model, you must either go through an agent to refer you to modeling agencies or you can directly contact one via email. If you are taking the help of an agent, choose a reliable one. You might not get into some of the big agencies like The Marilyn Agency or Ford Models right away, but with time you could get there. To start, take reference from the present models as it would guarantee the authenticity of the agent. In both the cases, be it an agent or via email, you must have a sample photo in hand. It must be taken from a professional studio bringing out the best in you and capturing the attitude of a model.

When you get to the interview stage, do not apply the entire make up kit. In fact, go with a casual look with minimal make up. It should neither be too simple nor too loud. A perfect balance must be maintained. Since the modeling career is all about the appearance, you first presentation of yourself must be worthy of appreciation.

The most significant thing to note if you want to know how to become a model is to take utmost care of yourself. Going to the gym and maintaining your figure is a must. No agency will hire you if you do not have the same. Maintain a health regime and follow it strictly. The harder you work the more success you will achieve. Apart from your body figure, ensure that your skin remains glowing all the time. Eat healthy and nutritious food and get the required amount of sleep to avoid any dark circles or other skin problems. Moreover, smooth and shiny hair is also required.

If you have the basic requirements in you, it might not take long to become a model. But you must remember that the life of a model is not only restricted to glamour and parties. In fact, you need to go through a lot of hard work before attaining the stage of relaxation. There will be many disappointments to go through, rivalry and intense competition with other models, rigorous schedules, meeting deadlines and many more.

To become a successful model, your stress and tension must not show on your face. It is a direct deterrent to your modeling career. Go through health and fitness magazines, modeling books to gain extra knowledge on how to achieve the higher position. Also take part in small events just to add to your resume. Such participation will give you a great exposure and practice to walk on the ramp and feel it for real.

Having done everything and creating the best portfolio for yourself, you are all set to enter the bigger world of modeling. But also prepare yourself well to go through a lot of tough situations. Though it may be frustrating then, the results will definitely show up.
